Ongoing government engagement key to ensuring £938m a year savings are realised
BEAMA, of which Onzo is a member, has responded to the publication of the Public Accounts Committee's report on Preparations for the roll out of smart meters. The industry body welcomed the report's acknowledgement of the potential benefits of the UK smart meter rollout. Commenting on the potential for UK households to cut electricity bills by £938m a year, BEAMA highlights how important it is that any concerns around the large scale rollout of smart meters are resolved.
Onzo echos opinion that it is important for everyone to be able to realise the benefits of smart metering.
Nick Hunn, Onzo's CTO commented, "The energy industry needs to help users to understand their energy usage. If you buy a new car it tells you how many mpg you are getting as you drive, and may even instruct you to change gear. No one can expect that we will use energy without any thought as to how we consume it. There is so much potential for making consumers aware of where their energy is going, and it is becoming ever more important as prices rise."
